The Contemporary World Unit 2 Activity 2 Reflection Paper Writing and Publishing

Global stratification refers to this unequal distribution among nations. There are two dimensions to this stratification: gaps between nations and gaps within nations.

Global stratification compares the wealth, economic stability, status, and power of countries as a whole. By comparing income and productivity between nations, researchers can better identify global inequalities.

Trace how global stratification affects the life cycle of each state in the globe.

Effects of Global Stratification. Global stratification greatly affects the life chances of people around the world. As noted earlier, people in the poorest nations live in some of the worst conditions possible. AIDS, malaria, starvation, and other deadly diseases are common.

Cause of global stratification

The view that global stratification results from a failure of poor nations to have the beliefs, values, and practices necessary for industrialization and rapid economic growth. The view that global stratification results from colonialization and exploitation of the poorest nations by the richest ones.

Some consequences of global stratification

Consequences of Global Stratification: Health

• Lower childhood death rates.

• Higher life expectancies.

• Fewer children born underweight.

• Clean water and adequate sanitation.

Lower childhood death rates- Skilled attendants for antenatal, birth, and postnatal care. Access to nutrition and micronutrients. Family knowledge of danger signs in a child's health. Improved access to water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Higher life expectancies- Human life expectancy has been increasing at a rapid rate. Better health care and hygiene, healthier life styles, sufficient food and improved medical care and reduced child mortality mean that we can now expect to live much longer than our ancestors just a few generations ago.

Fewer children born underweight- The risk of low birthweight is reduced among mothers who initiate prenatal care during the first 3 months of pregnancy. The proportion of mothers with early prenatal care has increased during the past 10 to 15 years.

Clean water and adequate sanitation- improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.
